About Cormorant Cottage

Cormorant Cottage is a delightful, end of terrace cottage, one of three attached to Glanteifi House on the outskirts of St Dogmaels, set on the banks of the River Teifi and offering the most wonderful views over this beautiful waterway, towards the mouth of the estuary and Poppit Sands.

There is a front terrace where you can sit and soak up the views on a summer’s evening or dine alfresco, the bird and wildlife is sure to delight; you are welcome to wander the 3 acres of shared grounds which reach down to the banks of the river and also to use the tennis court. The useful glazed porch leads to a spacious hallway and the double bedroom on the ground floor allows you to enjoy the water views as you awake.

The lounge/diner and fitted kitchen are located on the first floor, the dual-aspect and large windows really maximise the view along the river to the glorious Poppit Sands beach and out to Cardigan Bay. Comfortably furnished throughout, it makes a delightful retreat for a couple. St Dogmaels with its abbey ruins, shops, farmers market and several good pubs serving food is within walking distance as is the beautiful, long, sandy beach at Poppit Sands. Here you can join the start of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and explore this stunning coastline. From the top of Cemaes Head, the highest cliffs along the path, the views are breathtaking and you can see seals and their pups below in autumn.

The bustling market town of Cardigan has a good range of independent shops, pubs and restaurants and is only a 5 minute drive away. A boat trip round Cardigan Bay to see the resident bottlenosed dolphins, porpoises and grey seals should not be missed as it is designated a Heritage Coast rich in birds and many marine species,

St Dogmaels Market is held every Tuesday 9am to 1pm for your chance to buy fresh, local produce - www.stdogmaelsabbey.org.uk

Cormorant is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful area.

Care needed as some steep steps, unfenced drops and unfenced water in the grounds.

The property is approached via an A-road, then approximately 2 miles along narrow country lanes. House is accessed via a steep driveway (there is a sign board at the top of driveway) down leading to a parking area with a labelled parking bay for Cormorant guests. This is on a level asphalted surface with the allocated bay only a few metres from the front door. Front door reached over one step of brick height. Shared garden extends over 3 acres, including a tennis court, orchard and fish pond, sloping down towards the Teifi estuary. It is accessed from the parking area via a sloped grassy track and then over lawn, gravelled paths, steps and inclines. Metal hand rails are fitted by both main sets of steps within the garden. The top gardens are mainly flower beds with the lower levels laid to lawn. There is direct access to the estuary via a gravel/grass slipway to the right of the (new) boathouse or via steep, slate steps. Care needed as there are some steep steps, unfenced drops and unfenced water in the grounds. There is a level gravelled area with outdoor seating accessed via the front door which is raised slightly (one brick high) from the parking area. Ground floor facilities include whb/wc, washer/dryer in utility room and double bedroom. First floor facilities include lounge, dining area, kitchen and main bathroom/overhead shower/whb/wc. Kitchen has regular work top and a low level oven. Spacious lounge/diner with windows looking over the estuary and out to Poppit Sands, equipped with TV and other audio equipment. External lighting system to main entrance of property is activated by a motion sensor. Guide dogs welcome. Public transport (local bus service) approximately 700 metres to bus stop.

Had a lovely stay - cottage very comfortable. Did several walks from the pack. Also ventured further afield to the Vale of Rheidol Railway at Aberystwyth and to St Davids for a boat trip to see seals - well worth the drives. Ate at the Ferry Inn and enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Webley Hotel sat out in the sun. Also did 2 of the jigsaws.

Mr & Mrs Morris

We did a lot of walking including several sections of the coast path. We ate at The Ferry Inn and The White Hart - both good. Farmers market Tuesday morning was great - you must go, we bought loads of good things. Also had a tour of the water mill and heard how the owner accidentally became a miller.

Barry, Jenny & Hugo

Beautiful Cottage set in an amazing area. Had a great time. Hugo loved the grounds. Surrounding places to visit very interesting. If you can go we would recommend the Tuesday market in St Dogmaels.

Fantastic cottage and beautiful scenery. Dogs loved it and we will definitely be looking to come back.

Mr & Mrs James

Cormorant Cottage is probably the most idyllic cottage we have stayed in. Panoramic views and absolutely dog friendly. The local pubs were good for meals and the market handy for local produce. Despite being 'out of season' we found things to do and see. Poppit sands was great for the dogs and the local walks. Very nice. Will be recommending to friends.

Mr & Mrs Harris

Lovely break again - beautiful cottage and gorgeous area.

Mr & Mrs Harris

We had a super week at Cormorant Cottage. Tommy settled in straight away! We really enjoyed the beautiful views from the windows and grounds. Fabulous walks in the area and we were only stuck in avoiding the stormy weather once - not bad in November! A warm welcome for both us and the dog at The Ferry - it's a real bonus that its open at lunchtime for food even at this time of year. Premier shop in St Dogmaels very friendly staff and good selection of basics, even local meat. We enjoyed the Bluestone bacon and stewing lamb. Thank you for providing everything we needed in the cottage. We hope to visit again.

Mr & Mrs Webb

Fabulous holiday accommodation, particularly if you have a dog with you. Owners appear to have thought of everything you could possibly want.

Mr & Mrs Cox

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely views, four lovely days of sunshine, lots of interesting visits. Woollen museum, cheese making, gold mine and watching dolphins at Newquay.

Mr & Mrs Taylor

We absolutely loved our stay in Cormorant.. The grounds were amazingly beautiful and we had everything we needed in our cottage,We cant imagine how wonderful it must be here in the summer months with all the activities! We set off each day for wonderful hikes-Ceibwr Bay, Cemaes Head, St Davids and Mwnt amongst our favourites, We toured Carew castle followed by a cosy fireside lunch at Carew Inn. We enjoyed strolling strolling the seaside towns of Tenby and Newquay, loved visiting the church and grounds of Nevern. On our rainy day we drove to Pant Mawr Cheese Farmhouse for tasting, buying and consuming!. We loved coming back to our cosy cottage at the end of each day. What a wonderful place. Thank you !!

Simon and April

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. A perfect setting and wonderful views from the windows. We had a cooked breakfast and evening meal every day of our stay, the kitchen being a great place to cook! The photos of local scenes hanging up around the cottage are a great idea! We enjoyed walks around Ceibwr Bay, Poppit Sands, Mwnt, Aberporth and St Dogmaels. Mwnt was so beautiful we went there twice! Lovely cream tea at Penrallt Garden Centre. Also enjoyed walking down the the estuary every morning with Lily our dog-no car needed, no walking on roads! Wonderful! Also had a picnic lunch down on the beach one day, very peaceful and private too!

Adam and Joanna

Incredible views and amazing walks. Wandering along the shoreline to Poppit Sands was stunning, as were the Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coastal paths. We highly recommend , and throughly enjoyed, walks from the "Walking in the Teifi Estuary" guide on the shelf, our favourite being Walk 1 taking in the Teifi marshes and Welsh Wildlife Centre. Walk 2 to Cemaes Head was also amazing, with great coastal views including hundreds of seals. Other great days included visits to St Davids and Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber. To crown it all off we enjoyed early evening games of tennis in the sunshine, a lovely place

Darran

Lovely cottage. The views are stunning. Newport is a beautiful place to visit, the beach is huge and was good fun for our dogs. The weather helped a lot, quite warm at times, so we were able to sit outside pubs.Regarding the dogs, most pubs let you bring them inside, The pub closest, The Ferry Inn, offers a good selection of food, worth booking though. Poppit Sands is walkable if you are felling fit, not much there other than a cafe. All in all a very pleasant stay. Many thanks

Alan and Jean

We enjoyed our stay at Cormorant Cottage and really appreciated the amazing and ever changing views of the estuary, We found lots of place to go without travelling too far, Ceibwr Bay Mwnt, Newport, We bought excellent meat from the Fishguard Farmers market on Saturday. There were good views of nesting sea birds at Pen Dinas and we enjoyed visiting Cilgerran Castle and the burial chambers at Pentre Ifan and Carreg Coetan Arthur. The cottage is very well appointed and we enjoyed dining with the wonderful views over the Teifi

Daniela and Simon

We spent a great week in this lovely cottage, Perfectly appointed for great walks, beach with amazing views, The Ferry Inn offers great food, friendly staff and an amazing location-just a 5 minute walk down the road, Booked a boat ride to Ramsay Island from St Davids, which was thoroughly enjoyable-dogs welcome too. Tenby is a lovely little place to visit for a day trip, Highly recommend a visit to Pembroke Castle, We took bus to Moylegrove and walked back to the cottage-amazing views along the way, The St Dogmaels market on a Tuesday is well worth a visit-we bought great pies and pasties from one of the stalls, Overall a great trip and we will definitely be back. Thank you
